Revival
Mayor Randall Woodfin ignited Ensley’s revival by announcing the reconstruction of an affordable, high-performing replacement of the Ramsay McCormack Building. Commencing in the summer of 2023, the EDD project pledges economic growth, job opportunities, and heritage preservation.
Downtown Ensley's transformation of the original 10-story office tower, completed in 1929, into a modern 5-story commercial office building is in progress. Construction plans are complete, finances are secured, and permits are being finalized.
The new all-electric structure prioritizes occupant health with advanced lighting, and environmentally friendly heating, cooling, and water systems. It will proudly stand as Birmingham's first private sector building of its kind, adhering to the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver Certification standard.
